On my new account & sub-account when I run a DNS check only one MX record is noted.
I have both of my name servers set to ASO & everything there is ok.

Should I add a second backup MX record somewhere else - like Zonedit?

Thanks in advance for any suggestions.

To add a secondary MX record you need a configured secondary mail server for the domain. As far as I know, ASO dont provide secondary mail services, but I can recommend http://www.rollernet.us as a secondary mail service provider, there are both free and paid-for packages, their web interface makes it all really easy and the service appears rock solid in the couple of months I've been using it. Don't know what their support is like, I've never had to use it...

I have mail forwarding + mailman for a few domains running on kate.asmallorange.com and I have found that the single MX is insufficient to reliably receive mail. I can't speak for other servers at ASO, but kate (or the smtp process on kate) is just down too often to rely on.

I am also looking at other options for MX fallback, but I would appreciate it if ASO would provide a general MX fallback server for domains hosted at ASO.

Cheers,
-Peter
