Hi,
Right now, my website consists of a WordPress install (about 10MB), an SQL database (about 4MB), and about 9 MB of uploaded files (uploaded to public_html). However, my cPanel says that I've taken up nearly 40MB of space. Where does this discrepancy come from?

In addition to website and database files, the usual culprits are stored e-mail and your log files, as well as the graphics that the log programs create to display the information.

Even when I delete emails, log files, and statistics graphics, there is still a large discrepancy. Is it because the folders are 4kB each on the server?

Folders are generally shown as 4KB, but that shouldn't take up all that much space. One issue could be how it is counting "KB" or "MB". Technically, 1MB is 1,000KB, which is 1,000B, but the computing world used 1MB as 1024KB for a while, which is actually a Mebibyte (MiB) and is nearly 5% different from a 'true' MB.
That's just a guess as to what might cause it. The other possible cause is that one or the other might be working off a slightly old cache and not showing the latest values.
