Hi,
I used to manage a E-commerce store. I was pretty irritated with the previous guys who used to handle my website because of their monthly hosting charges, so I would like to change it to a different company. Now my question is , will it affect my existing ranking and the traffic which is coming to my site  when i change my host? i am very scared about that . Please give some valuable advice on how to change to a different host.

It would highly depend on who you give the contract to shift your website to. A Small Orange gives excellent hosting so once the shift is over you should have no problems, but hiring professionals to shift the websites will ensure minimal downtime.

However, the minimum downtime caused by domain name server propagation will cause the website to be down for at least a few hours. :|

Changing hosts will not affect search engine rankings. And generally, down time is minimal of you know what you're doing. The tech support people here at ASO asre excellent and if you do run into a problem they can usually get it sorted out pretty quickly.  The two big things that you must get right are:  1. Transfer of your databases; and 2. Updating the nameservers with your domain  registrar.  This is a whole lot easier if your domain registrar is NOT the same organization as your hosting.

No it's don't really change your ranking until and unless you won't change your content of your website so don't worry.

I dont't think so.. with shifting your host to someone else won't affect your ranking and performance. may be, the downtime take your presence away for a little while.

If properly done, downtime should be only the length of time it takes DNS to update.

1) establish second hosting account
2) replicate site on new host and test
3) change DNS to point at new host
4) once DNS change has propogated remove old site and shut down old hosting.
Obsolescence is just a lack of imagination.

Sign up at ASO and enjoy friendly, quality hosting services. Use coupon code no2512 and save 15% or coupon code 2152on and take $5 off. Valid on both Shared Hosting and VPS plans.

I have to agree. No changes in your rankings if ever there will be, it is a result of the updates of Google algo.
