Hi,
I have done alot of research over the past two days in regards to my slow load times with my wordpress theme www.dagmarmarketing.com. I set this site up with Godaddy deluxe hosting 5-6 months ago and load times were liveable given the theme I bought having a lot of graphics. My theme is an Elegant Theme which is one of the bigger theme designers so its not a hack job. I do have about 15 plugins but turning them off doesn't fix the problem. I also have a staging site setup at test.dagmarmarketing.com. Again an Elegant Theme installed with minimal plugins. This too has been very slow. The slow load times are intermittent but still 75% of the loads are way too slow. Here are the steps taken with Godaddy:
Disabled plugins
optimzed database tables
turned off fast cgi
installed WP Supercache and tested correctly <----this helped the most but after a few hours right back to slow load times.
I feel that as a new customer I was put on a new server which filled up over time and my new neighbors are killing the server. After researching I see that is a common practice of overselling servers. I guess I should have known better.
Thats the background info...
The last 3 days I have been non stop on the phone with Godaddy given the fact my load time was constantly 30-45 seconds. They have pretty much said it's my theme and that I should use twenty-ten. I don't need to tell you all how frustrated I was but needless to say I changed the them to twenty-eleven to test and it did load "faster" but still loading too slow IMO for such a stripped down theme. I left the twenty-eleven theme active on the test site for comparison purposes. Right now it's loading alright but this morning it wasn't.
Yes I know this is a long winded post but I want a clear understanding with the next host I go with. My site all together is under 1GB storage and very little traffic <---hurts me to say but going to be honest. So my needs shouldn't be much.
Before I switch I would like a representative to tell me "no" your site is bloated and will run slow on any server or "yes" we can easily run your website. I provided the links above so that people can see whats going on instead of taking my word for it.
Thanks for your time...
CJ

While it may vbe better for SEO to hae http://domainname.tld in front of every single file rference, when you usae them to include content off the same server such as in
statements, it actually has a performance hit since it has to do a complete request back to the webserver as if it was a request from a browser. It shouldn't be as much of a hit as you are seeing though. Lots of scripting which slows things down as well.
Load first try: 1:15
Load second try: 0:17
load third try after clearing browser cache: 0:29
test load first try: 0:16
test load second try: 0:14
test load third try after clearing browser cache: 1:22
Since the dynamic page timer says it created the page in 2 seconds (assuming it's accurate) I would guess it's likely network congestion (common for GoDaddy) All one can say for GoDaddy is they are cheap.

Obsolescence is just a lack of imagination.

That's exactly what is happening. Go Daddy is a well-known overseller that promises much more than it could ever deliver. Eventually, server performance deteriorates as you and I and many others have experienced. The page generation time at the bottom of your main page output indicates a time of 2.263 seconds. That is slow!
I am a Go Daddy refugee myself. I (and my buddies) started at Go Daddy in 2005. For the first year-and-a-half Go Daddy was acceptable, but certainly not fast. But over time, page loads were getting slower and slower. During peak times, it got to the point where a SMF forum page load was taking over 20 seconds just to generate the page content (as indicated by the page generation time at the bottom of the page) and about 30 seconds from click to render in my browser. There is no way any visitor is going to sit and wait 30 seconds per pageview. We knew we had to leave Go Daddy. Complaints about poor load times were met with run-arounds by Go Daddy staff ("do a traceroute", etc.).
Prior to leaving Go Daddy, I tested another web host. They, too, were oversellers. SMF page generation times were taking about 8 - 10 seconds during peak times. Much faster than Go Daddy, but still way too slow. Then in 2007 we came to ASO and have not looked back. To give you a comparison, SMF page generation times were taking about 3/10ths of a second on A Small Orange compared to 20 seconds on Go Daddy. Huge difference.
Wordpress is bloated. There are over 70 file includes for every pageview. On a very fast server like the ones here at ASO (which recently upgraded their fast servers to even faster servers), that isn't much of an issue in regards to speed. But on an overseller, it is a very big problem. Files are not going to remain cached in memory for long on an overseller like Go Daddy and the server is going to have to seek, open, compile, and execute 70+ files from hard disk on every pageview. On an overloaded server, that is going to take quite a long time as there are many pending requests from other sites waiting to be processed.
As someone who is making a business on the internet, I am sure you are aware of the importance of making a good impression with all aspects of your website, including load times. Go Daddy is 100% unacceptable as a web host for any serious webmaster.
No webhost is perfect. But ASO is about as close as they get to perfection. As someone who has been with ASO for over 4 years now, I strongly recommend that you sign up here. I am giving you a testimonial as someone who has been here for years and fled Go Daddy because of the exact same things you are experiencing. I was in the same boat you are in now.
I cannot recommend ASO highly enough. I will give you my referral link and a couple of codes that you can use to save yourself a little money should you wisely decide to dump Go Daddy and sign up with ASO.

Ok Billzo, I liked your response the best so I used your discount code. I guess a month to month can't hurt and I like the reseller program if everything checks out. I turned one of my clients on to Godaddy and I hope he doesn't have the same problem.
Cheers...

Thank you.
I am sure you will be happy here and will notice a huge difference in server performance and Wordpress load times compared to Go Daddy. Like I said, I was in your situation back in 2007. The difference between a good host such as ASO and an overseller like Go Daddy is like night and day.
Welcome aboard. If you have questions, people in the forum here are very helpful.
