I tried using CGI Proxy http://www.asmallora...n/nph-proxy.cgi to access my VPS as I am currently behind a firewall that prevents access using port numbers.

but it says the owners of this proxy has restricted access to certain servers. Is it possible for me to access my VPS account through this proxy?

If you are using cpanel, it should also be accessible using http//www.yourdomain.tld/cpanel without needing to use the domain:port address.

That was my first thought but unfortunately that redirects to :2082 anyway. I'm afraid I haven't found a way round this so I'll be interested to know if you do find one - for cPanel, WHM and indeed Virtuozzo!

http://cpanel.domain.com is the proxified cpanel that doesnt redirect to another port. However, this is not available for WHM and Virtuozzo as far as I know.

Wow I didn't know that worked - that's definitely one I'll be remembering from now on. WHM and VZ are less important to me in these situations, but having cPanel access is great!

And it isn't even as if you can proxy the requests via Apache on your VPS, because half of the time when I want Virtuozzo then it is because something is wrong with my site :D

You all are wrong!

I have been informed by support that access without ports is not available for VPS servers.

The URL cpanel.domain.com is not working for my VPS.

Blimey! That was a bit of an angry response. I have a VPS and have just logged in absolutely fine at http://cpanel.mymaindomain.com so it definitely does work for some of them at least. Works with https://cpanel.mymaindomain.com too (albeit with a security certificate warning), cos I just tried that!

You can enable the option within WHM (Tweak Settings) by turning on the Proxy subdomains and optionally Proxy subdomain creation and Proxy subdomain override

But port-free Virtuozzo is still out of the question? (particularly important for those of us with Developer ;) )

I'm not sure if you're being sarcastic or not, but it really is that simple. :)

I am not being sarcastic, I had applied those settings previously and it didn't work.  There could be a delay before this setting takes effect? I'm not sure.

You would need to make sure that the "cpanel" CNAME exists in your DNS zone. I do not think that it will proactively create it for you after the setting has been enabled.

After that, DNS propagation can take a little while.

I guess you could run a port-forwarding proxy via someone else's account, but then you need to trust that other account :D I'm assuming the ASO system only works for Shared machines, of course.

Oh well, I'll just have to continue hoping that I'm not at work when things go wrong!

I have been able to do it by running a command from SSH to add an entry in /scripts/proxydomains
