Hello,
I've heard really good reviews about asmallorange. I'm looking at jumping from godaddy but I just wanted to clarify the product/service that would meet my requirements.

First my current setup -
I am working in a family business working with 3 (sub) companies.
We currently have 5 domains registered with godaddy
3 of the domains have websites associated with it (each in its own folder under the same account). The websites are pretty small (10-15 pages) with the small number of hits coming from our customers.
All 5 domains have google apps setup.
All 3 websites were developed with iweb. However, we are planning on moving one of the sites to joomla and making it a bit more robust
Our current GOdaddy plan doesnt have any joomla support

I was wondering what product/service from asmallorange you would recommend. Also, is there a way to smooth over the migration - We use Google Apps for email in our business and the downtime would be horrible.

Regards,
Nish

Just pick the plan that provides the right amount of space/bandwidth you require. You can upgrade at anytime.

All of our packages support joomla, so that is not a determining factor.

The best way to go about migrating is to signup for the account, transfer all your website files over, have us edit your DNS records for Google Apps, and then change your nameserver records at Godaddy to ours. This will ensure that there will not be any downtime for email, or your websites.

I'm sure that you'll be a lot happier here than you are at GoDaddy. I've never used GoDaddy for hosting but I did have a number of domains registered with them and escaped a number of years ago.

How do I go about signing up. Do I select "I want to transfer my domain to A Small Orange" or "I will update my nameservers on an existing domain Or I will register a new domain."

Thanks,
Nish

Assuming you already have the domain you want to use, and you registered it with GoDaddy, then you need to decide if you're happy to keep paying GoDaddy for the actual domain registration (in which case choose "I will update my nameservers on an existing domain") or if you'd rather have everything dealt with in one place, by ASO (in which case, "I want to transfer my domain to A Small Orange" is the one for you!).

It is not a very good idea to have your hosting and domain registration handled by the same company. If something happens to the company or if you want to leave for some reason it can be difficult to get control of your domains as a number of people here have found from bitter experience. Leave your domains registered at GoDaddy and move them to a different registrar in the future if you want to leave GoDaddy completely.
