Horace seems to be down (again) since about 15:00 Eastern (now 16:25 Eastern).

Not a good omen after an unrequested server move from a relatively stable system.

Looks like I missed a close one there then. I was moved to Horace (unrequested), but then switched to another server after requesting PHP running under my account name.

It seems to have been a bit wobbly recently, last Monday it fell over quite dramatically too.  I can confirm though that it was up fairly consistently between then and now.

What generally causes that kind of fragility?

I was moved to Horace as it was supposed to be a faster server as Michael (which performed very well while I was here) was being decommissioned. Frankly I don't find Horace any faster and I've had more downtime so far this month on Horace than the previous eight on Michael, which is disappointing for a new server.

According to the status thread, Horace was down on the 3rd around 8am for servicing for about an hour due to a Wordpress blog that was causing a load spike.

When I submitted a ticket about the time of my original post, it was down for over an hour "pending a fsck". Not sure how long a "pending" period is but it's back up now.

That kind of fragility is usually caused by badly functioning scripts.

I think you may have been a bit optimistic about it coming back up there.

When you say badly functioning scripts what do you mean exactly?  What should be avoided and how can you tell if you are causing the problem?

Down again today for a considerable period. This is NOT looking good.

By badly functioning scripts I mean poorly written scripts that consume large amounts of server resources clogging things up at best and locking things up at worst. Good programming practices, not using scritps from unknown sources are two good starts.

Looks like it's down again. This is what, three days in a row? Never had a problem with any ASO service until this month. Now it seems every time I try to work on anything the server goes down. It's not like anything I'm doing here is life or death, but when I get a free minute to work on a project it sucks to have the opportunity wasted by malfunctioning servers.

It's back now but was down again for over an hour. I want Michael back. It may have been older hardware but it was reliable. Never had this much trouble until I was moved to Horace.
