I figured out how to add a "blidget" to my site - I wanted to have something on the home page that would show the latest stuff that is on the blog (articles! ) page.

I see that the widget loads last, (which apparently is normal) but it is also deadly slow.
Does anyone here know how I might be able to speed it up?

If you do have a suggestion, please explain it in simple terms - I'm a teacher not a webmaker --- I've managed to figure out a lot of things, but mostly it is trial and error!

It loads pretty fast for me. Since it appears to be a hosted service, then the problems are going to be with the service itself and not anything on your site. Unfortunately, this means you don't have much control over it.

Well, I'm glad to hear it loads pretty fast for you - that's good news.
And while not having control over it is a bit frustrating, on the other hand, I am sort of relieved that I didn't mess up and I don't have to hunt for a solution. I just have to decide how much of an issue it is and if I want to keep it.

That Widgetbox stuff doesn't load at all for me on Firefox unless I click on it.

I just checked it with Foxfire Monzilla myself, and it came up fine.

Did you mean that you could not see the contents of the widget box, or did you mean that you could not access the contents without clicking.

If you mean you could not access and read until you clicked, that's ok. If you mean that there was no content shoing in the widget box til you clicked, that is an issue ---but one I'm not sure how to resolve, given that it worked for me.  ????
